Chrome apps are now available for Android and iOS. Yesterday, Google launched a developer preview of a tool chain using open-source Apache Cordova platform for building native mobile applications using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Using this tool-set, programmers can wrap their already existing Chrome Apps in a native shell and submit them to Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.

Google has been working on making variety of other Chrome APIs available for these apps which include push messaging, alarms, authenticating users via OAuth2, and support for payments, and rich notifications (Android only). Programmers can  browse and find the APIs at Cordova Plugins.

This is a good move by Google which opens door for new Chrome Apps which can be ported to other platforms (including mobile platforms) easily.
