Upgrade your phone or tablet for free (or darn near close)

Want to upgrade your phone or tablet and that pain in the butt thing called money is in your way or you’re not due for an upgrade from your carrier?

I’ve upgraded my phone twice this month and it hasn’t cost me a dime except for the cost of shipping.  I’m a frequent user and respected member over at the XDA forums (chefdave12118) and they have a nifty little thread called “Wanting to sell” (In the market place).  If you’re getting bored with your Android phone, Iphone, or tablets, head on over to the Xda Wanting to sell section and browse the thread.  I’ve recently traded my Nexus S 4g for an HTC Evo View 4G and couldn’t be happier with the trade (btw, I got the Nexus S 4G from another trade I did in November).  If you have an OG Evo 4G that’s collecting dust throw it up on the Wanting to sell thread and see what people are willing to trade ya for it or maybe make a few bucks.  I’ve seen some crazy trades due to people missing development with older phones, wanting a phone to dev for and some other reasons I can’t wrap my head around but….  if you can get an Evo 3D for your OG Evo 4g (maybe plus a few bucks), what the heck!

Just keep in mind that not everyone on the internet has good intentions (big suprise there).  Be sure to check their feedback, post count, thanks count, look at their past posts and topics before you commit to a trade.  A lot of the times (this is the scary part) people need you to send your phone first so they can activate it before sending there’s to you.  It’s a chance you may have to take to get that free (or next to free) upgrade with out waiting a year for your carrier to finaly hand one to ya.  Don’t be afraid to private message “well known” users to find out if they have any dirt on the person you’re trading with.

I’ve done a few trades on the XDA Wanting to sell thread and all have gone with out a problem.  I currently own a Nexus S 4g, HTC Evo View 4g, Samsung Galaxy S 2 Epic Touch 4G and a few Android Figurines from trading (most of the trades were in my favor… unless i wanted a phone for deving, like the NS4G).

Be safe, follow your gut, research the person you’re tading with, keep in contact with the person you’re trading with (via text, email, xda pm) and most importantly keep all of your negotiations public on the thread so there is no confusion on both sides.  This also allows other members to chime in or maybe let you know if they smell something fishy.  After you’ve done all that…..  Enjoy your new smart phone or tablet upgrade.

If you have any questions or concerns about this…… comment away :)
