Google confirmed that Galaxy Nexus is not on the list of devices getting Android 4.4 KitKat update as it falls outside of 18 month update window. However this is not stopping the custom ROMs based on Android 4.4 for Galaxy Nexus.
Couple of custom ROMs , SimKat ( from SlimBean team ) and A Taste of Kitkat are already up for download over Galaxy Nexus forums – XDA. Though these are listed as Alpha builds, performance is good except for few bugs like Graphical glitches during the rotatescreen animation, crt off effect, screenshot animation and while browsing through AOSP browser.
