Montar WG-CMM02013 Car Mount Review

montar

Before I do a written review for the Montar WG-CMM02013 I just want to say (get ready for a lecture folks), as a husband, father of 4 , a motorcycle rider and a person that is completely against any kind of cell phone use while you are behind the wheel, please wait to look at that email, text, Facebook status or even checking the latest Android news from Android Fan Network.  If you absolutely need to have access to your GPS, music etc in your vehicle then a car mount on your dashboard is the safest way to go.

OK!  Now that my texting and driving lecture is done, let’s get into this really nice car mount made by Winner.

I received the Montar WG-CMM02013 roughly a week ago and have had time to use it on a daily basis in my truck and at home as my kitchen counter phone mount.  I’m going to start with the good, then the bad and conclude with my final opinion.

The Good

  1. The Winner Montar WG-CMM02013 Universal Car Mount is a phone mount that would look sleek in any car or truck.  Mounted on the dashboard of my truck gave an appearance that it was built directly into my dashboard by my truck manufacturer because of the unibody design that Montar offers.
  2. The one handed easy installation made it nice and simple to switch the location from my dashboard to my windshield.  The one push suction kept it very snug in both locations (which is very important when you’re storing your $600 phone in a mount).
  3.  The 360 degree rotation of the phone holder made the transition from windshield to dashboard almost effortless.  It also swivels up and down (like a rear view mirror) for height adjustment in both locations.  Because of these two movements putting your phone in landscape or portrait for a driving mode app or music player was easily achievable.
  4.  Maybe my favorite feature is being able to use it in my vehicle to any flat smooth surface in my home.  I found myself throughout the week grabbing the whole dock with the phone still in it and sticking it near one of my chargers on my kitchen counter.  Again, because of the swivel options that the Montar Car Mount offers I was able to adjust it to my height even on my kitchen counter, which gave me great viewing angles to my phone.
  5.  The entire area that grips your device is a ribbed rubber material that makes it scratch proof to the sides and back of your devices.  It also has a very firm grip, so there are no worries about your device coming loose and dropping.
  6.  The price!  For $34.99 you’re getting a well built phone mount that can be used in pretty much any smooth and flat surface.  I had a lot of fun using it around my house as well as my truck (wonder if I could stick it to my motorcycle helmet ;) ).
  7.  It offers a unique washable suction cup on the bottom that could give it a long life, even if you’re moving it from your vehicle to around your home.
  8. The black unibody makes wiping fingerprints and dust also an easy Task.

The Bad

  1. For Samsung Galaxy Note 2 owners, you may be out of luck.  The Montar box features says it holds up to 5.3″ devices yet their website shows a Note 2 in compatible devices.  I don’t have a Note 2 at the moment to test but it’s a bit worrisome considering the popularity of the Note 2.  Though I do have an HTC Droid DNA which is a 5″ device that fits in snug and fine. *Edit – We just tested it with a Note 2 and it fits just fine*
  2. While the mount is easily mounted to a surface with one hand – it can be difficult at times to get your device in and out of the the mount with two hands, let alone one.  I can see an iPhone easily going in and out of the mount, but again I don’t have an iPhone to test this at the moment.
  3. That’s all I have for the bad

Conclusion

The Montar WG-CMM02013 Universal Car Mount is in my opinion one of the best bangs for your buck if you’re looking for a well built car mount. It’s a really sleek looking accessory that looks good in the car or on your kitchen counter.  The washable suction cups on the bottom is also a great feature that can make this mount last you a long time.  Would I get a Montar Car Mount?  Absolutely!  It looks good, feels good, well built and portable.  For $34.99 you’re getting a hell of a phone mount that should last you a long long time and is universal with many different phones (except maybe the Note 2).  Go grab one of these babies, I know I will!

Now for the Great news!  If you don’t have the $34.99 to buy one….We have a few of these to giveaway, so stay tuned for the details.  Also stay tuned for Nicks video unboxing and review of the Montar Car Mount coming up soon.
